In late 2024, our Treeing Walker Coonhound Dolly had to be hospitalized when she suddenly fell ill. Test results revealed severe anemia from a tick-born illness, despite our preventative care. She was in immediate need of a blood transfusion, but the hospital’s blood bank was depleted. So the doctor called on a standby donor, who came in that very night. Meet Riot, the donor who saved Dolly’s life! His person, Jessica Dennis, sent us this photo of Riot meeting Dolly at the hospital right before the blood donation and transfusion procedure. We were assured that Riot received lots of treats for his bravery. Thankfully, the transfusion was successful and Dolly began to recuperate, arriving back home after several days in the hospital. Her recovery took some time, but we are pleased to report that she is back to her happy, healthy, barking self! We love you Riot! You’re a true hero!
And we have more good news… Dolly made some new friends! The Martino Family met Dolly and immediately connected with her. They visit Dolly regularly to take her for walks and shower her with toys and treats. Dolly has never had a sponsor over the eight years that she has been at The Lily Pond and is delighted to now have such wonderful friends… even if she has to share the toys and treats with the other dogs.
A big THANK YOU to the Martino Family, to Riot and his person Jessica Dennis and to all who donated towards the cost of Dolly’s hospitalization and medical care!
