In Loving Memory, Toblerone

TOBLERONE arrived in 2016 – a tiny, sickly, mewling little fluff rescued from a colony of feral cats. We nursed him back to health and found ourselves blessed with an incredibly charming, boisterous, friendly, funny feline!

Toblerone was Head of the Department of Mischief at the kitty house. Even after growing up, he remained 100% kitten at heart, ever curious and ready toss catnip toys, play a game of chase… and cause trouble. A sweet soul, Toblerone was nonetheless quite skilled with his claws and talented at redecorating the house. Paper towel rolls shredded to a thousand pieces; curtains drooping in tatters, plants with chewed up leaves; lamps knocked over and streams of toilet paper trailed through the family room. Yep. Toblerone. Whenever new kittens arrived, Toblerone would appoint himself their babysitter, mentoring them in the finer methods of destruction with unholy glee. We finally had to give up the dream of decorating the kitty house with curtains. Toblerone also had the endearing quality of a pesky little brother, annoying the older cats by stealing their treats or swishing a tail in their face. Despite his trouble-making tendencies and his rough start in life, Toblerone had a heart of gold. He loved belly rubs and a comfortable lap. Any human lap would do. He was a happy-go-lucky guy; a lover of life; a bringer of joy… and of mischief.

It came unexpectedly, that day when Toblerone suddenly refused to eat. Of course it was a weekend, so I took him to the emergency hospital thinking he might have a case of pancreatitis. He was only eight years old and had always enjoyed good health. The veterinarian quickly identified a fast growing abdominal tumor that had burst. In shock from the news, I approved immediate surgery and any treatment to save his life. But surgery was not possible due to his low blood platelet count and that night Toblerone gained his angel wings in my arms. We were devastated by the enormous and sudden loss. Toblerone had always been a favorite with caregivers and visitors, as well as a friend to all cats. We often think of Toblerone, surely prancing around heaven, batting at stars, shredding clouds and dancing across rainbows… making the angels smile.

Thank you Toblerone for all the years of friendship, joy, mischief and laughter.
You made the world a better place and will remain forever in our hearts. ❤️
