We recently had to say goodbye to three beloved members of The Lily Pond family. These transitions are never easy… in fact they are devastating. One of the most difficult aspects of animal rescue is grieving the loss of their passing – a challenge we face regularly given our focus on seniors, special needs, and hospice care. We also acknowledge the privilege of supporting an animal as they cross over into the next phase of their soul’s journey. These moments are sacred and full of grace. We find comfort in the special memories we shared with our beloved four-legged friends and the fact that they were living their best life with us… safe, well fed and cared for, and loved.

ELLIOT was a handsome gentleman of a cat with a lovely fawn-colored coat and matching eyes. After becoming depressed at a local shelter for being returned three times, we welcomed him to the sanctuary in 2017 to provide him a safe and stable home. He responded well and made friends with all the cats and caregivers. But his heart will always belong to his best friend Destiny, with whom he could often be found snuggling. He also had a lot to say, chit-chatting loudly with any person who came into his orbit. He loved to watch birds through the window and absolutely lived for Temptations treats every night at bedtime.
He was diagnosed with diabetes about a year after his arrival and was so good about his daily insulin shots over the years. As he neared his 17th birthday, he developed kidney disease. It was a terribly sad day for all of us when he finally succumbed in the spring. Oh how we miss his musical conversation and friendly purrs. We were so lucky to call him part of our family for seven happy years.
