Leia was a senior Akita mix who came to the sanctuary in March 2017. She had been passed over many times at the shelter due to her stoic personality. Previously rescued from a hording case, Leia was not a people dog but she was smart and gentle. Our German Shepherd Zaffa was absolutely delighted to have a new friend. He fell in love with her immediately and she brought out the best qualities in him. Initially very shy of humans, Leia slowly began to warm up and enjoy being pet and brushed.
We knew she had a suspicious lump at the time we adopted her, which turned out to be cancer that spread to her organs. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge in October 2017.
