The lovely Katarina was the embodiment of beauty and grace. A stunning seal-point Siamese with eyes of sapphire, Katarina was a gentle soul who used her healing gifts to comfort sick animals here at the sanctuary. Her previous owners made the unfortunate decision to declaw her front paws, which left them sensitive and made it painful for her to walk. Consequently, she stopped using the litter box. When her owners realized this, they dumped her at a shelter. We were lucky to make her acquaintance and Katarina arrived at The Lily Pond in February 2016. We solved her litter box issues by placing puppy training pads in a couple of the boxes instead of litter, which she began using right away. Katarina made many friends, especially with Theo. Whenever we had a cat arrive for hospice care, it was Katarina who would snuggle and bathe them with her nurturing care.
In January 2020, Katarina was diagnosed with diabetes, which we were able to keep under control with daily insulin. A month later, another devastating diagnosis: kidney disease. We began all the recommended treatments and were thrilled when she celebrated her 18th birthday on May 15, 2020. However, we soon realized that she was preparing her approach to the Rainbow Bridge. Katarina passed peacefully on May 24, 2020. She lived a long, full life. Our sweet angel truly merited her wings.
